Fire! Fire! Giant Tulips and Long Nails!
What a fire today, this is Jennilyns first school burning down, quite a momentous event, apparently an electrical problem is the cause. Everyone got out safely, thank goodness. The schools' Canadian Flag is still flying in this picture! The shot was taken five hours after the fire started, the earlier, thick, black smoke, that could be seen from all over town was carried up and away by a strong westerly wind away from town. Remember this is 5 hours after fire broke out and the smoke in these pictures is minimal to what it was.
The smoke did cause the evacuation of some homes, and it was strange to see all the RCMP in gas masks directing traffic and lookie loo's (such as myself) away from the scene! If the wind had been easterly, it would have caused a mass evacuation of part of the city.
Unpleasant to look at, when only that morning 200 odd students were out on the playing fields, as the fire broke out at lunch time, the evacuation of the school was made easier. It is also ironic, that the school had been placed on the closure list for next year, and there was quite an outcry to keep it open.....I guess that protest has now been silenced.
I had to take a photo of these tulips, they were absolutely huge, once the petals spread, they didn't drop off for over five days, if you look at the china mug on the right, you can see the comparison.
This is a ridiculous shot, but I had to try a new medication, and within 10 days my nails grew to this extraordinary length, usually they break off. I happened to see my spa lady and she said "don't tell anyone about the meds, it would put me out of business!!!" Down side of this was, the other side effects were debilitating and I had to discontinue use!
These shots were taken from the main highway. That is the Bethel Church on Western Avenue in the background on the last shot, for those who are familiar with our city.
Quite a mixed blog, but having been sick for over 34 days (not that I am counting!) life has been a little boring to say the least. I am hoping to change that tomorrow, if I don't take a turn for the worse. I am driving south to meet "the kids" who are flying in, for our annual west coast vacation. So fingers crossed!

Pauline, you are becoming quite the photo journalist. That is amazing. So lucky that all the school kids were out and are safe.
